The Kettlebell Queen - A Poem
Share
This poem was gifted to me as a birthday present back in 2018 by a lovely client, Anne Quinn. This was pre-pandemic when I taught circuit classes in St Aloysius Hall. I wanted to pop it on my blog as I only have an A4 print out and would hate to lose it.
There's a girl I know from Cushendall,
Who takes her fitness so seriously,
There's sailing in her background,
Some weight training and insanity
She runs her classes with a knowledge so bold,
And we're all like lambs to the slaughter,
Even Cathy, her mum, bites her tongue now and then,
But no one will run down her daughter,
A Saturday morning we set aside,
To make this time more well spent,
We could lie on in our beds or sit on our bum,
In the end we are glad that we went,
Catherine has that gentle approach,
But has an attitude made out of steel,
By the time the 45 minutes are up,
We all know it's a very big deal,
She's done it all - trained hard for her crown,
And it has to be said is no quitter,
She's welcomed each one of us into her class,
And is making us all so much fitter,
There's something about her we would have to agree,
That makes her appealing to all,
We drag ourselves round for an hour straight from hell,
Then walk out, heads held high from that hall,
The muscles they ache from our neck till our toes,
I declare I'll never go back,
Till a wee midnight text - oh there's nowhere to hide!,
I suppose I may get back on track,
She is a good coach, I suppose to be fair,
She wants us all to be healthy and fit,
As I lie in my bath after 0 odd squats,
Hoping tomorrow I can comfortably sit,
But our limits are there and she knows every one,
She keeps pushing us all to the edge,
The burpees, the planks and the kettlebells too,
Are all part of our taken on pledge,
But lo and behold at the end of the class broad grins replace all the, pains,
Whether we're proud or just glad to be done,
Either way we all have made 'gains',
She doesn't shout or swear at us,
But when she speaks we all hear,
She shows us how to breathe and stretch,
And to use our strength without fear,
So that's the tale of our Catherine,
A girl who is really quite smart,
She has the knack of building us up,
A lovely girl, with a very big heart.
