The Best Homemade Granola Recipe

I love Granola - but damn, can it be 1) expensive and 2) full of sugar and ingredients we don't need to be consuming. I have been making my own homemade granola for years now and this is the ultimate homemade granola recipe. Made with simple cupboard staples like oats, honey, coconut and spices, it’s ideal for snacking, breakfast, or dessert. Follow the foolproof instructions to make homemade granola with your favourite mix-ins.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil or other neutral oil, such olive oil
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • As little/as much mixed nuts/dried fruit as you like.

METHOD
1. Heat the oven to 170c and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.

2. Place the oil, honey and maple syrup in a saucepan over low heat.

3. Add the oats, cinnamon and salt to a separate bowl. Then, transfer it into the wet mix. Make sure all the oats are well coated. If it looks very wet, add some more oats.

4. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking sheet and spread into an even layer.

5. Bake in the oven for around 15/20 minutes - but keep an eye on it. The granola is ready when golden-brown — it will still feel wet coming out of the oven but will dry as it cools.

6. Remove from the oven, add the fruit and or choclate, press it down into the mix and let it cool. cool. (Cool completely before storing.)

7. Transfer the granola to an airtight container for long-term storage at room temperature.
