From Student to Speaker: My Return to Garron Tower for International Women's Day

Last week, I had the absolute honour of returning to Garron Tower for the first time since I left in 2012. Walking back through those doors, memories came flooding back—some great, some challenging, but all part of my journey.

I was invited to speak to Year 8 and Year 14 students as part of their International Women's Day celebrations. My talk focused on women in business, running your own company, and why being Stronger for Life is so much better than just being skinny. If you’d told my 18-year-old self that one day I’d be standing in front of 100 students talking about my career, I wouldn’t have believed you.

The Journey from Student to Business Owner

School wasn’t always easy for me. I struggled with making friends, I wasn’t naturally academic, and I had to work really hard just to get okay grades. Back then, I thought success meant following a straight path—getting top grades, going to university, and landing a "secure" job. But life had other plans.

Fast forward to today, and I run CFIT—a coaching business that empowers women to build strength, confidence, and a healthier mindset around fitness. I coach over 100 women, run online classes, a PT studio, a run club, and a sustainable fat-loss nutrition program. I even have an app in the works. 🤫
None of this came from being the top student in school. It came from showing up, working hard, and believing in myself.

My Advice to the Next Generation

Before I left the stage, I shared one final piece of advice with the students: just show up. Because guess what? Most people don’t. The world is full of people who talk about what they want to do, but never take action. The simple act of showing up—whether it’s to train, to learn, or to chase your dreams—puts you ahead of so many.

To the students at Garron Tower, thank you for welcoming me back with open arms. And to my younger self who once doubted where she’d end up? You’re doing just fine. ❤️
