Friends of Garron Tower: Connecting the Past to Shape the Future
Share
On Friday evening, I had the privilege of being a keynote speaker at the Friends of Garron Tower event – a charity dedicated to bringing together alumni and parents of “the Tower on the Hill” to help shape the future of today’s students and the generations to come.
No matter where you went to school, it leaves its mark. The people you met, the teachers who influenced your decisions, the paths you chose (and the ones you didn’t) – all of it contributes to the person you become. We each carry a story shaped by those years, and Friends of Garron Tower exists to ensure those stories continue to inspire. Its mission is clear: unlocking potential and inspiring futures.
For me, Garron Tower played a central role in my journey. Many of the opportunities I’ve had, and the resilience I’ve built along the way, trace back to the influence of my teachers and peers there. Standing at the front of that room, sharing my story of entrepreneurship – the wins, the lessons, and the struggles – was both humbling and deeply meaningful.
I’ll admit, imposter syndrome was real. Sharing a platform with Neil McManus, Sandra McAllister, and John McCaffery – each so accomplished in their own fields – was intimidating, but also incredibly inspiring.
This is what Friends of Garron Tower is all about: connection, opportunity, and giving back. Whether through financial support, mentorship, guidance, or simply opening doors to real-life opportunities, every contribution helps. If you’re a past pupil, a parent, or someone who values the legacy of Garron Tower, I’d encourage you to get involved. Together, we can ensure future generations have the same (or even greater) opportunities than we did.
