Weight Loss Injections: The Side Nobody Talks About
Share
Weight loss injections are everywhere right now. They are spoken about as if they are a simple, modern solution to a complex problem. Reduced appetite, quick weight loss, minimal effort. For many women who have tried everything else, it can feel like the final option.
But there is a side of this conversation that rarely makes it into marketing, reels, or success stories. This blog exists to share that side, through the real experience of one of my clients who used Wegovy and wishes she had been given fuller information before starting.
This is not written to scare or shame anyone. It is written to inform.
The early weeks: when everything seemed fine
My client used Wegovy for four months. She started on a very low dose, increasing gradually each month as prescribed. During the early weeks, everything felt manageable. She administered the weekly injection, went about her life as normal, and noticed no immediate side effects. The weight loss came quickly, and from the outside, the process appeared to be working exactly as promised.
As the dose increased, so did the side effects
As the dosage increased, her experience changed significantly. Wegovy works by slowing the rate at which food leaves the stomach. While this reduces appetite, it also means that food remains in the digestive system far longer than it should.
In real terms, this led to persistent bloating, severe stomach cramps, nausea, headaches, and a constant feeling of being uncomfortably full. One of the most distressing symptoms was the sulphur-like smell on her breath, caused by food fermenting in her system rather than being digested normally.
In her words, it felt like her body was “rotting from the inside.”
The night she thought she was going to die
One night, her symptoms escalated to a frightening level. She became violently ill and was vomiting for hours. This was not mild nausea or a reaction she could manage at home with rest. She was genuinely afraid that something was seriously wrong.
She was bringing up undigested food that had clearly been sitting in her stomach far longer than normal. The physical distress was matched by fear and panic. At one point, she considered calling her neighbour because she felt so unwell and alone.
This was the moment she realised that the medication was doing far more than simply “curbing appetite.”
Weight loss did happen, but health did not improve
There is no denying that she lost weight while using Wegovy. However, weight loss alone is not a marker of improved health.
Ten months after stopping the injections, she is still trying to regulate her digestion. Her relationship with food was not repaired during the process, and the medication did not address the habits or behaviours that led her to seek weight loss in the first place. Once the injections stopped, weight began to return, as is common when appetite suppression is removed without sustainable habits in place.
In her own reflection, she recognises that the injections did not help her develop better food behaviours. They simply overrode hunger temporarily.
Why this matters from a coaching perspective
As a coach, my concern is not just weight loss, but long-term health, confidence, and resilience. Any approach that leaves a person afraid of their own body, struggling with digestion months later, or attempting to “repair” their system long after stopping should be questioned carefully.
Fat loss that compromises gut health, hormonal balance, or mental wellbeing is not a win. Sustainable progress comes from understanding food, building muscle, supporting metabolism, and developing habits that work in real life — not from outsourcing appetite regulation to a drug.
Her final reflection
“If I had known the havoc it would cause, I would never have used it.”
That sentence is the reason this blog exists.
If you are considering weight loss injections, it is important to look beyond the promise of fast results and ask what the long-term cost may be. Weight loss should not come at the expense of your health, your confidence, or your sense of control around food.
At CFIT, we do not chase quick fixes. We focus on education, strength, and sustainable habits that support you for life — not just until the next injection.
Stronger for life.
